Scientific Conference Held to Mark 100th Birth Anniversary of Mongolist Galina Slesarchuk

Ulaanbaatar, April 8, 2026 /MONTSAME/. An international scientific conference titled “Introductory Readings in Mongol Studies,” dedicated to the 100th birth anniversary of the renowned Russian Mongolist Galina Ivanovna Slesarchuk, was held on March 30 at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow.


Deputy Director for Research at the institute, Natalya Romanova, opened the conference and delivered remarks highlighting the scholarly legacy of Galina Slesarchuk, who devoted 60 years of her life to Mongol studies.


Third Secretary of the Embassy of Mongolia in Russia and a Doctor of Philology Chinbayar Onon attended the conference and delivered greetings. As part of the events marking the 105th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Russia, he delivered a presentation on the topic “Characteristics of the Development of Publishing Houses in Early 20th Century Mongolia.”


The conference brought together 21 scholars and graduate students, including prominent Russian Mongolists including Anna Tsendina, Irina Kulganek, Tatiana Skrynnikova and others.


Galina Slesarchuk, together with Mark Isaakovich Golman, co-edited major historical works, including Soviet-Mongolian Relations. 1921–1966” (Moscow, 1965) and the two-volume documentary collection “Soviet-Mongolian Relations. 1921–1974.” In collaboration with other Mongolian and Russian authors, she also edited significant publications such as “The Comintern and Mongolia” and “Mongolian–Soviet Cultural, Scientific, and Technical Relations. 1921–1960.”
