Parliament Ratifies Social Security Agreement Between Mongolia and Austria

Ulaanbaatar, April 3, 2026 /MONTSAME/. At its plenary session on April 2, the State Great Khural (Parliament) ratified the Law on Approving the Agreement on Social Security between Mongolia and the Republic of Austria.
Member
of Parliament Lundeg Surenjav presented proposals and conclusions of the Standing Committee
on Security and Foreign Policy. He noted that the committee discussed the draft
law at its March 18, 2026 meeting and that the majority of members supported
the agreement.
Members
expressed support for the agreement and inquired about how many countries
Mongolia has established such agreements with, as well as future plans and
number of Mongolian citizens residing in those countries.
According to Rentsendorj, Director of Social Insurance and Savings Fund Policy Department at the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Protection, Mongolia has established social security agreements with seven countries. For instance, Mongolia signed the agreement with Russia in 1981, where 3,466 Mongolian citizens reside, and with South Korea in 2007, where 55,900 Mongolian citizens reside. Mongolia also signed agreements with Hungary, Poland, Turkey, the Czech Republic, and Kazakhstan. In total, 92,147 Mongolian citizens are staying in these countries, accounting for 35% of Mongolians living abroad. The government is also working to establish similar agreements with Australia, Germany, and the United States.
The
draft law to ratify the agreement with Austria was approved with 69.3% support
from attending members.
