Ulaanbaatar,
April 2, 2026 /MONTSAME/. In connection with Autism Awareness Month, the
“Asakh Gerel Bayasal” Center, the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social
Protection of Mongolia, and the School of Educational Studies at Mongolian
National University of Education jointly organized an international conference
titled “Autism and Education” on April 1.
According to
the ministry, the conference was attended by representatives of the US-based
Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) and internationally recognized
experts in behavior analysis and speech therapy, who delivered presentations
and engaged in discussions.
According to
2024 data from the National Statistics Office of Mongolia, there are 107.9
thousand persons with disabilities living in Mongolia, accounting for 3.1% of
the total population. Of these, 14.6 thousand—or 1.1%—are children, including
2,395 diagnosed with autism. In recent years, the number of children diagnosed
with autism spectrum disorder in Mongolia has shown a steady increase. For
example, there were 1,725 such cases in 2022, rising to 2,395 by the end of
2024. Of these, 1,765 children are registered in the capital, while 630 are in
rural areas.
However, these
figures may not fully reflect the actual situation, as they only include
children who have undergone evaluation by sectoral commissions and received an
official diagnosis.
