Mongolian Ophthalmologist Presented Distinguished Service Award

Ulaanbaatar, February 11, 2026 /MONTSAME/. The 41st Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Congress took place in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China on February 5–8.
During the congress, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology and Eye Surgery at
the First Central Hospital of Mongolia, Dr. Enkhtuul Sedbazar, was awarded the
Distinguished Service Awards-2026 in recognition of her contribution to
developing ophthalmic surgical treatment and strengthening the training base in
Mongolia.
The Distinguished Service Awards of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology is presented in recognition of “outstanding contributions and exceptional service in advancing eye care services and training ophthalmologists in the Asia-Pacific region.” Since its establishment in 1981, this prestigious award has previously been presented to distinguished Mongolian ophthalmic surgeons, including Prof. Baasankhuu Jamiyanjav.

Dr. Enkhtuul, recipient of the Distinguished
Service Award 2026, has worked as an ophthalmologist at the Department of
Ophthalmology and Eye Surgery of the First Central Hospital since 2009 and has
served as Head of the Department since 2021. She has enhanced her professional
knowledge and skills through training in the United States, Canada, India,
South Korea, and China, and has made significant contributions to developing
comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of vitreoretinal diseases in Mongolia.
The
Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology aims to strengthen cooperation among
ophthalmologists worldwide and collaborate with international and regional
organizations. The Academy is a prestigious professional body with 27 member
countries and organizations. Fifty-nine percent of the world’s ophthalmologists
or approximately 120,000 eye doctors are working in the Asia-Pacific region.
