Ulaanbaatar, October 24, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The Ministry of Family, Labor, and Social Protection of Mongolia is aiming to develop a national system for elderly care.

In line with this initiative, risk detection for the elderly will be organized nationwide, amendments will be made to the legal regulations on elderly care, and health professionals and hospital staff trained in nursing and caring for the elderly will be prepared. Additionally, development centers for the elderly to support their active lifestyles and social participation will be established in every aimag, soum, and district based on available resources.

Minister of Family, Labor, and Social Protection Enkh-Amgalan Luvsantseren held discussions on this issue with officials and representatives of the Ministry of Health of Mongolia, the General Department of Social Insurance, the National Center for Gerontology, and non-governmental organizations operating in elderly care.

The Ministry of Family, Labor, and Social Protection reported that the Government’s Action Program for 2024-2028 includes five objectives to improve social protection and support for the elderly, one of which is developing elderly care and increasing the participation of private enterprises and non-governmental organizations.

In Mongolia, “Achlalt Khuukhduud” NGO provides care services for the elderly in Darkhan-Uul and Selenge aimags and Sukhbaatar district in Ulaanbaatar, while private enterprises are providing temporary home care and daycare services for the elderly. To support these organizations, there is a need to set tariffs on their services, enable financing through the Social Insurance Fund and the Health Insurance Fund, and improve accessibility.
