Chairman Zandanshatar Receives UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar, October 23, 2023 /MONTSAME/. Today, the Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia Zandanshatar Gombojav received the UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia Matilda Dimovska, upon assuming her office. 



At the outset of the Meeting, Chairman Zandanshatar expressed his satisfaction with the appointment of the well-experienced Resident Representative to Mongolia, wishing her all the best in her new duties. The Chairman expressed gratitude to the United Nations Development Program for its support in organizing the Trans-Altai Stability Dialogue in Ulaanbaatar last June, which addressed the issue of how to ensure gender equality and increase women's participation at the decision-making level. 


The Chairman of Mongolia informed that the State Great Khural of Mongolia has amended the law on the election of the parliament of Mongolia to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal of gender equality, mandating that at least 30% of all candidates in the 2024 regular election and at least 40% in the 2028 regular election be women. He also said that the State Great Khural of Mongolia introduced an electronic system for receiving public petitions last week as part of the goal of strengthening parliamentary democracy. More than 100,000 citizens supported the proposal of a 5% value-added tax refund in the electronic system within six days. It made it possible to revise the Law on Value Added Tax. 



Newly appointed UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia Matilda Dimovska expressed her gratitude for the Speaker of Parliament taking his time to meet with her during this busy period as the Parliament of Mongolia discusses the State Budget 2024. 


Ms. Dimovska commended the State Great Khural for its support of the Sustainable Development Goals, saying that it is a strong impetus for strengthening parliamentary democracy. She also expressed her commitment to expanding relations and cooperation between the State Great Khural and the United Nations Development Programme. 


Resident Representative Matilda Dimovska noted that UNDP would actively work towards contributing to Mongolia becoming a prosperous country characterized by inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development, a healthy and safe environment, and a cohesive society based on the rule of law and human rights under the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, to be implemented in Mongolia in 2023-2027.
