Prime Minister of Mongolia Mandates to Intensify Winter Preparations

Ulaanbaatar, October 12, 2023 /MONTSAME/. During the regular meeting of the Government of Mongolia on October 12, 2023, Minister of Energy of Mongolia B. Choijilsuren presented to the Cabinet session the progress of preparations of thermal power plants and energy companies for the winter of 2023-2024. The Minister of Energy was tasked to intensify the winter preparations of the energy sector and ensure their completion within the planned period. As of today, the winter preparation of the energy sector is at 85 percent.
Thermal power plants have reserves of 526.4 thousand tons of coal and 1,569 tons of fuel oil. An average of 2,300 tons of improved briquettes are produced per day and there are 118,234 tons of improved briquettes, 175,006 tons of middling, and 730 tons of binder in reserve. The energy sector of Mongolia will be in winter mode from September 16, 2023, to May 15, 2024. The maximum electricity load in the winter of 2023-2024 is expected to reach 1567 MW. The Energy Integrated System will operate at full capacity.
According to the performance of the first eight months of 2023, electricity consumption in Mongolia is 7,011.6 million kWh, an increase of 422.9 million kWh or 6.4 percent compared to the previous year.
