Ulaanbaatar, June 5, 2023 /MONTSAME/. On June 4, 2023, Mongolia celebrated Buddha Day (Buddha Purnima) as an official public holiday. The Buddha Day or the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha, which falls on the 15th of the first month of summer each year, according to the Lunar calendar is marked as a day to promote compassion, empathy, and kindness for mother nature, human beings, and family. On this day, chanting, praying, and teaching sessions, Buddhist rituals and ceremonies, a parade of Buddhist believers, and meditation took place at Sukhbaatar Square as well as in Buddhist monasteries, including the Gandantegchinlen Monastery, the center of Mongolian Buddhists. The events were broadcasted live on "Buddha" TV and live-streamed online.
