Resolution Initiated by Mongolia Approved at the UN General Assembly

Ulaanbaatar, January 20th /MONTSAME/. On January 18, the resolution on “Education for Democracy”, initiated by Mongolia, was approved without a vote at the Plenary meeting of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
This biennial resolution which proved that the mutually reinforcing link between education and democracy was important to ensure peace and human rights and achieve sustainable development was initiated by Mongolia in 2012.
Noting the significance of education for democracy, 84 countries from different regions supported the resolution and co-authored it.
The resolution is the second resolution of the UN General
Assembly which reflected the follow-up issues of the “Transforming Education”
Summit, taken place during the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in
September 2022. It is decided to
prepare the UN Secretary-General’s report specifically on this issue, education
for democracy, and further submit it to the 79th session of the UN General Assembly for
discussion.
