Prime Minister wishes success to National chess team

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Prime Minister of Mongolia L.Oyun-Erdene received chess players of the Mongolian national chess team who will be competing in the 44th Chess Olympiad 2022.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that the Government of Mongolia attaches great importance to the development of the sport of chess and expressed confidence that Mongolian chess players would successfully participate in the tournament, while wishing for success.
Grandmaster A.Enkhtuul said, “As chess has not been recognized as the Olympic sport yet, FIDE organizes the biennial tournament to select the best chess player. In other words, Chess Olympiad is equal to the Olympics for us – to the chess players”, while thanking the Prime Minister and the Government for resolving the issues of practice and funding.
The 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 will be held in
Chennai, the Republic of India, between July 28 and August 10. The Olympiad
will bring together 343 chess players from 197 countries.
The following 10 chess players will represent Mongolia in the tournament: Grandmasters D.Batsuren, B.Gundavaa, S.Bilguun and A.Enkhtuul, Master G.Amartuvshin, and International Masters S.Gan-Erdene, B.Bayarmaa, T.Munkhzul, B.Mungunzul and D.Munkhzul.
The Chess Olympiad was held online for the last two years and this will be the first physical tournament since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mongolian national chess team has participated in the
tournament 25 times so far. The men’s team is currently ranked 46th while
the women’s team is ranked 27th.
