Social Protection Minister virtually meets UN Special Rapporteur

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. Minister for Labour and Social Protection A. Ariunzaya met with UN Special Rapporteur  on violence against women Reem Alsalem virtually to share views on the preliminary report.

During the meeting, Minister A.Ariunzaya informed that the Ministry is taking phased multilateral measures to prevent and stop gender-based violence and domestic violence in cooperation with government, non-governmental organizations and development partner organizations.


She noted, “According to the Law on Combating Domestic Violence, which was amended by the Parliament in 2016 and have been serving since 2017, domestic violence is deemed a criminal act and punishment has been tightened.  In addition, there are some progresses in preventing recurrence of violence through compulsory behavioral training, providing behavioral and psychological counseling, creating a structure to protect victims, raising public awareness and building zero tolerance on violence in the society.”


Ms. Reem Alsalem said that she would present her final report to the UN Human Rights Council in June 2022.


She worked in Mongolia from November 29 to December 8 to review the implementation of international commitments and the legal, institutional and policy frameworks put in place to prevent and eliminate violence against women and introduced the preliminary findings of her visit to relevant government organizations.
