Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ At the Cabinet’s regular meeting on November 10, Minister of Energy N.Tavinbekh and Governor of the capital city and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar D.Sumiyabazar were instructed to set up a joint working group to carry out a feasibility study into building a waste-to-energy plant in Ulaanbaatar and find the necessary funding source.

The waste-to-energy plant included in the action program of the government of Mongolia is expected to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfills by 31.8 percent starting from 2024.

Estimates show that by 2040, Ulaanbaatar city will recycle 50 percent of its total waste and generate energy from the non-recyclable 42 percent, which will bring a decrease in the amount of waste headed to landfills.
