Ulaanbaatar, December 24, 2025 /MONTSAME/. In 2025, the State Third Central Hospital successfully introduced and fully localized five advanced neurosurgical technologies, significantly reducing the number of patients seeking treatment abroad.

This year, the hospital performed 1,908 open brain and spinal surgeries, including 346 cases involving malignant and benign tumors. Of these, 104 cases involved surgically complex tumors located deep within the brain and spinal cord. A total of 110 surgeries were performed on patients aged 16 and under.

Among the newly implemented technologies, the hospital has successfully begun performing navigation-guided, endoscopic removal of deep-seated brain tumors, reducing intraoperative and postoperative complications by 15–20 percent and shortening hospital stays by 3–5 days.

In addition, the hospital has, for the first time in Mongolia, localized carotid endarterectomy (CEA) surgery to remove fatty plaques from the carotid artery and restore blood flow as a preventive measure against stroke. Twenty-eight patients have been treated using this procedure, representing a significant step in lowering the risk of cerebral stroke.

Using a minimally invasive endoscopic technique for cervical spine surgery, the hospital treated 15 patients, notably shortening recovery time and improving patients’ ability to return to work.

Furthermore, the hospital has successfully performed four high-level neurosurgical procedures involving High-Flow Bypass surgery, which supplies the brain with new vascular circulation to prevent cerebral blood flow disruption caused by severe narrowing or blockage of large-diameter arteries, tumors, or aneurysms.

Through funding from its own budget and donations from the Khuree Rotary Club, the hospital invested MNT 1.7 billion in advanced endoscopic neurosurgical equipment for deep brain tumors and hydrocephalus treatment. This investment has enabled Mongolian citizens to receive high-quality treatment domestically at lower cost and has redirected an estimated MNT 1.9 billion in economic outflow that would otherwise have gone abroad.
