Readiness expressed for support in Mongolia’s initiatives to fight against climate change

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On November 3, Speaker of the State Great Khural G.Zandanshatar received UNDP Resident Representative Elaine M. Conkievich.

 

At the start of the meeting, Speaker G.Zandanshatar expressed gratitude to the UNDP for continuously cooperating with Mongolia over the course of many years, providing support for the development of a democratic system, and especially building the capacity of the parliament. “In the framework of the cooperation, the UNDP and the State Great Khural jointly implemented several projects in recent years, making significant contributions to building the capacity of civil service in Mongolia, ensuring the implementation of policies and legislations, and implementing certain measures for institutional development. Thus, we wish to continue to have active cooperation in the future.”

 

In turn, UNDP Resident Representative Elaine M. Conkievich noted how it has been 45 years since the UNDP began to cooperate with the Government of Mongolia, and expressed readiness to support all initiatives being made by the Government on fighting against climate change. Informing the Speaker about a project currently being implemented on supporting women’s participation at the decision-making level in partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency, she then requested support for its successful implementation.

 

During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on works carried out for Mongolia to meet the Sustainable Development Goals, future plans, and the project, ‘Toward a Professional and Citizen-Centered Civil Service in Mongolia’.
