Director Bat-Amgalan Lkhagvajav wins award from Locarno Film Festival

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Film director Bat-Amgalan Lkhagvajav has won the Moulin d'Andé -CECI Award from the Locarno Film Festival for his short film, ‘Sleepless’. The 74th edition of the international film festival is taking place in Locarno, Switzerland from August 4 to 14.
By winning the award, the Mongolian director will be able to develop his own feature film project at an artistic residency in Normandie, France. He has also been involved in the Producer’s Lab at the Open Doors 2021.
As part of the festival’s Open Doors section, director Ikhbayar Urchuud and producer Nomintuya Baasankhuu have been chosen for the ‘Co-production Hub’ selection with their ‘The Water Garden’ film project.
Last year, Mongolian filmmakers won three of the seven awards presented by the Open Doors programme. With aims to support filmmakers and artists, the Open Doors programme is being implemented for the 19th year with support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The programme is focusing on the cinematographic landscape of Southeast Asia and Mongolia in 2019-2021.
