China Report Presents SCO Forum of Governance and Leadership Calling for Strengthening International Cooperation

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On July 28, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Forum on Governance and Leadership, co-organized by China National Academy of Governance and the SCO Secretariat, successfully completed established agendas in Beijing. Nearly 200 representatives from SCO member states, observer states, dialogue partners and international organizations had a fruitful exchange of ideas.

In the parallel forums, centering on the theme “National Development and Governance”, according to the current respective national circumstances, participating countries conducted an in-depth exchange of their opinions on key issues such as the leadership of the governing party and national development, modernization of epidemic response and governance capability, people’s well-being and social governance as well as regional cooperation opportunities and challenges. The represented countries discussed the above-mentioned topics from different perspectives in view of different national conditions, to inspire and enrich one another in the exchange of experience, with multiple references to the topic of deepening cooperation. From the response of COVID-19 to the situation in Afghanistan, delegates were unanimous in emphasizing the necessity of mutual trust among member states and developing friendly and cooperative relations in more fields.

During the closing ceremony, Zhen Zhanmin, Vice President of China National Academy of Governance, put forward an initiative centered on friendly exchanges among states, considering the proposals of building a cooperation network for the development of SCO member states’ governance and leadership, promoting the exchange of knowledge, experience, and innovative practices, establishing a high-quality international exchange platform, and designating personnel as communicators and coordinators.  All the academies of governance of the SCO member states expressed their support for this initiative.
