Defense Minister paying working visit to Russian Federation

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Minister of Defense G.Saikhanbayar is paying a working visit to the Russian Federation, starting from June 22. The Mongolian Minister is taking part in the IX Moscow Conference on International Security, underway between 22and 24 of June, at the invitation of Russian Minister of Defense Sergey Shoygu. 


During his visit to Russia, Minister Saikhanbayar, together with his Russian counterpart, attended the launch ceremony of a memorial demonstrating the participation of the Mongolian People’s Republic in the Great Patriotic War. The memorial sculpture is placed at the Patriot Park in the Moscow region. 


In his opening remarks at the ceremony, Russian Minister Sergey Shoygu said “Today, we are inaugurating two sculptures dedicated for our friends of Mongolia and China who greatly contributed to the victory of the Great Patriotic War. More sculptures will be placed here in coming years, in recognition of the Normandy-Neman Fighter Aviation Regiment of France, American pilots who flew airplanes Alaska to Siberia and those who supported us to gain the victory."


Expressing his gratitude on behalf of the Mongolian people to the Russian Defense Minister and the Ministry of Defense colleagues for the ceremony of the sculpture commemorating the Mongolia’s assistance to the people of the Soviet Union during the years of the Great Patriotic War, Minister Saikhanbileg also conveyed thanks to Russia again for unveiling the ‘War Horses’ monument, which was gifted by the people of Mongolia on the occasion of the 70th  anniversary of the victory of the Great Patriotic War, at the Victory Park on the Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow in 2017. The monument with two horses dragging an artillery gun symbolizes Mongolia’s invaluable aid during the war.
