Comprehensive policy to be developed to promote accessibility of apartments

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On May 27, the government reviewed an implementation of the government's ‘MNT 10 trillion comprehensive plan for economic recovery and health protection’, which includes a plan to enhance accessibility of the government’s housing mortgage plan.
Within the framework of the plan, 3,995 households have taken out mortgage loans with total funding of MNT 295 billion this year, which is already 2.8 times higher than the same of period of 2020.
With funding sourced from state and local budgets, international development investment and public-private partnership, projects to build eight apartment complexes are underway with the purpose of promoting the affordability and accessibility of apartments and increasing the state-owned rental apartment funds. The projects will allow additional over 100,000 people to dwell in 28,569 apartments.
On May 22, 2019, the government approved ‘150,000 Families-Apartments’ national program, which targets to build apartments for 100,000 families. By the end of 2020, new apartments buildings for a total of 47,149 families have been commissioned.
According to the cabinet secretariat press office, there are over 897,000 household families nationwide. In Ulaanbaatar city, 201,000 families of 411,000 total families are living in apartments with complete engineering facilities and infrastructure, and the remaining 209,000 families are living in Ger dwellings or private housing without access to proper infrastructure. 10.3 percent or 42,300 out of the total 411,000 families in Ulaanbaatar city do not own private homes, statistics show.
With efforts to bring forward government policy to promote accessibility of apartments of the population, Prime Minister L. Oyun-Erdene has been working in 9 districts of Ulaanbaatar city as well as in rural regions. This week, the Premier is planning to work in Songinokhairkhan District, where various projects on development of model apartment towns, freeing up of lands and development of sub-centers.
The Prime Minister gave an order to corresponding ministers to develop a comprehensive policy document in order to intensify the goal to provide the population with apartments.
