Ulaanbaatar Mayor meets IOM Programme Manager

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Governor of the capital city and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar D.Sumiyabazar on April 8 had a meeting with Programme Manager at International Organization for Migration (IOM) Victor Lutenco.


The sides had discussions about managing migration to Ulaanbaatar, expanding the use of IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix, and upskilling public servants in the field. Stressing the importance of effective management of migration in addressing pressing issues facing Ulaanbaatar including traffic congestion and air pollution, Governor D.Sumiyabazar undertook to provide support in the organization’s activities.


The United Nations Migration Agency, IOM, through its office in Ulaanbaatar has been contributing to the efforts of the Government of Mongolia to manage migration effectively through a wide variety of projects and programmes. With the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), IOM Mongolia is currently working with the National University of Mongolia (NUM) and the Ger Community Mapping Centre (GCMC) to better understand the rural to urban migration and the vulnerabilities and challenges experienced by newly arrived migrants.
