‘Veins of the World’ awarded at FIFDH film festival

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. ‘Veins of the World’, a film directed by D.Byambasuren, won two prizes, namely Grand Prize Fiction and Human Rights and Youth Jury Prize in fiction competition of FIFDH Film Festival which took place in Geneva on March 5-14.


Jointly produced by Basis Berlin film production, Mongol TV, and Broadcasting Berlin-Brandenburg, its premiere took place at the Berlin Film Festival last year. With her previous works being ‘The Story of the Weeping Camel’, ‘The Cave of the Yellow Dog’, and ‘The Two Horses of Chinggis Khan’, it is the 4th film by the director. 

 

The film depicts nomadic life in Mongolia. As the environment is being recklessly destroyed by foreign mining companies, the father of an 11-year-old boy leads the fight against their harmful operations. After the unfortunate death of his father, the boy decides to follow his father’s path, continuing the fight.


The film has been selected as Mongolia’s official entry for this year’s Oscars. This year, the shortlist for the International Feature category includes 15 feature films.
