Deaths from stroke reduced by 1.4 times in capital city district during MongPEN project

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On January 5, a virtual meeting took place to discuss the results of the MongPEN pilot project on introducing necessary package of assistance and services for improving NCD/cardiovascular disease management. 




Minister of Health T.Munkhsaikhan, Head of the General Authority for Health Insurance L.Byambasuren, Director General of National Center for Public Health D.Narantuya, WHO Representative in Mongolia Sergey Diorditsa, health care representative of 21 aimags, and corresponding officials attended the meeting.


The project implementation kicked off in Songinokhairkhan district of Ulaanbaatar city, and 16 primary healthcare institutions of Darkhan-Uul aimag from June 2019. 




During the project implementation, not only deaths from stroke decreased by 2.5 times in Darkhan-Uul aimag, and 1.4 times in Songinokhairkhan district, but also the monitoring was improved for cardiovascular diseases, blood pressure, and diabetes at the primary healthcare level, reducing the number of patients being referred to secondary care.


With support from the World Health Organization, the Ministry of Health plans to continue to implement the project, further expanding its range in primary healthcare centers in aimags and the capital city.
