Horse saddle of Galdan Boshigt Khan
Art & CultureGobi-Altai /MONTSAME/. A rare and precious exhibit dated
back to 17th century -- a horse saddle of Galdan Boshigt Khan of Oirat is being
kept at the local museum of Gobi-Altai aimag.
The saddle was designed look like a traditional Mongolian boot, making
the pommel like a toe cap and cantle like a top of the boot stocking. The
pommel and cantle binders were cast in silver, their front and back sides were
gilded with gold, and the water wave pattern and fish were embroidered
on the seat. The depiction of water waves and aquatic animal connects with a
legend, which says there was a sea in the territory of Sharga soum of the
aimag.
The local museum of the aimag has more than 2,500 exhibits
and artifacts in the halls of minerals, nature-geography, history-ethnography,
religion, folk arts, ‘Patriots’ and of Ch.Lodoidamba.
