Wheat supply opportunities discussed with Russian officials

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. Mongolia’s Ambassador to the Russian
Federation D. Davaa held a meeting with M.S. Golovin and R.Kh. Khairetdinov
from the Russian Grain Union at the Embassy of Mongolia.
During the meeting, the Ambassador clarified next year’s grain export situation, availability, and tariffs, in connection with the Russian government’s decision to set a quota on grain export (17.5 million tons) from February 15 to June 30, 2021, with aims to protect the domestic market, and to impose a tax equitable to 50 percent of customs price in case of exceeding the quota. They also exchanged views about possibilities to cooperate in supplying wheat to Mongolia from some regions of Russia.
Over 50 percent of
the Russian Grain Union members are grain producers and the companies related
to grain processing and storage activities. Comprising of the Russian key
players of agricultural and food markets, the RGU produces about 20 percent of grain
production, more than 50 percent of flour and animal fodder, two-thirds of the
grain market turnover, and more than 90 percent of grain export.
