Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. In our series of highlight artifacts being kept at the National Museum of Mongolia, we are presenting the writing desk that was used by Former Prime Minister of Mongolia A.Amar (1886-1941).

In the registration of the museum collection, it is written that, “Made of wood, the desk has a sliding lid at the top. A small desk painted in red and green. Used by former Prime Minister of the Mongolian People’s Republic Amar Anand in 1936-1938.”

Museum treasurer B.Uuganbayar wrote in his notes that it is merely a normal writing desk with red and green paint at a quick glance. Once you take a closer look, however, a flower and tumen nast pattern can be found illustrated with bronze gold on top of the faded paint. Intricate craftsmanship is noticeable from the desk with the sliding lid.

With plenty of space to store paperwork as well as brushes, a bottom corner of the desk is also seen to be slightly burnt. The desk is relatively small with a length of 28 cm, width of 14 cm, and height of 13 cm.

The owner of the desk was A.Amar, a Former Prime Minister of the Mongolian People’s Republic (in office in 1928-1930 and 1936-1939) who put all his heart and soul into the country’s independence and development.
