Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/.  The carving - “Bayanbaigal” is being kept at the Museum of Uvurkhangai aimag. Meritorious Cultural Worker S.Sengee created the 220.5x145 cm carving with his son S.Bazar, spending four years.

In the upper part of the carving, birds, animals and plants in steppe and Khangai region are depicted with the focus on the Orkhon waterfall, while in the lower part, the animals and plants of Gobi region are embossed.

The carving was purchased by the local museum in 1979 for MNT 30,000, which was equal to the price of two UAZ-469 at that time.

“MNT 30,000 was a huge amount of money at that time. The annual budget of the whole aimag was MNT 3 million. We bought it after a long discussion, which later got us criticized by the inspectors for spending a large amount of money. However, G.Namkhaidagva, who was the director of the museum at that time gave the inspectors better understanding of the artwork, explaining how valuable and exquisite it was” recalls D.Tserenjamts, former Head of the Financial Department of the aimag.

S.Sengee created nearly 200 carving artworks using ivory, sandalwood, horns, etc. with themes of Mongolian nature, animals, and human life, making remarkable contribution to the collection of Mongolian fine arts.
