Disabled women leaders to be mobilized for inclusive responses to gender-based violence

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The first online discussion within
the framework of "Mobilizing Disabled Women Leaders for Inclusive
Responses to Gender-based Violence during the COVID Pandemic" project,
jointly organized by the Culture Centre of the Deaf of Mongolia and Mobility
International USA funded by the USA Department of State, was held on November
6th, 2020.
At the beginning of the e-discussion, H.E. Ariunzaya Ayush,
Minister for Labor and Social Protection of Mongolia, has introduced measures
taken by the government against gender-based violence during the COVID-19
pandemic.
Furthermore, the Minister has also pointed out that the
issues regarding people with disabilities should be at the center of population
development policy, that there is an urgent need for inter-sectoral policies
and its coordination, as well as our main priority is to keep people with
disabilities and women free from violence.
The project has started to be implemented in the following
five countries around the world, including Federative Republic of Brazil, Republic
of Haiti, Mongolia, Republic of the Niger, Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri
Lanka and Republic of Sierra Leone. The main objective of the project is to
mobilize women with disabilities for promotion of inclusive services aiming to
reduce gender-based violence during the COVID-19 pandemic and to strengthen
partnerships between governmental agencies, the public, development
organizations and women leaders with disabilities.
As a result of the discussion, a guide book (manual) on the
promotion of measures taken by the Government to women with disabilities is
expected to be published.
More than 30 representatives, such as women leaders with
disabilities, delegation from governmental and non-governmental organizations
in charge of gender issues have participated in the e-discussion and expressed
their views.
