Waste compactors provided to 21 aimags’ environment departments

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On September 14, waste compactors were handed over to the authorities of Special Protected Area Administrations and Environment Departments of 21 aimags. The machines have an hourly capacity of 300-500 tons of waste.


Every year, 3.4 million tons of waste is generated nationwide, of which 1.2 million is generated in the capital city. In her remarks during the event, Minister of Environment and Tourism D.Sarangerel said the compactors are provided as part of the Government’s plan to improve waste management.  


Director of a local recycling company that has been turning plastic waste into street furniture and manhole covers since 2005, O.Purevdorj said the compactors will make the transportation of recyclables much faster and easier. Operation of San Orgiyu company has given the idea of importing such equipment, he noted.


The compactors are capable of compressing paper, cartons, cans, and electrical waste. As of today, two local companies are making products from recyclables and four companies are exporting recycled plastic materials abroad.
