Views exchanged on achieving health targets for Sustainable Development Goal

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On August 26, Minister of Health T.Munkhsaikhan held a meeting with Mr. Tapan Mishra, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Mongolia.

 

At the meeting, Minister of Health T.Munkhsaikhan highlighted the important role played by the United Nations in Mongolia's social and economic development, especially in the health sector. In particular, Mongolia’s cooperation and partnership with the United Nations and its specialized agencies has made significant contribution to gain successes towards the health-related targets of the Millennium Development Goals. Moreover, the Minister said Mongolia will continue to cooperate with the United Nations to achieve health targets for the Sustainable Development Goals.


In turn, Mr. Tapan Mishra expressed his willingness to support the activities of the Government of Mongolia through the UN Resident Coordinator's Office and its specialized agencies in Mongolia. After affirming the eagerness to provide much-needed assistance and support and develop active collaboration in health sector and help government of the country to attain the Sustainable Development Goals, the Resident Coordinator introduced about activities, measures and working plan set by the UN working team in Mongolia for the fight against the pandemic.  


The Minister Munkhsaikhan said that in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease in the country, the healthcare sector is continuing to work along with other industries with a view to ensure preparedness for response to COVID-19 and overcome the pandemic with the least possible losses. He then expressed gratitude for the professional and methodological assistance and investment provided by the UN Humanitarian and Health Team for Mongolia. 


Also, the Health Minister introduced to Resident Coordinator Tapan Mishra about future policy objectives and reforms planned in the health sector. For instance, efforts will be taken to reform the financing system of healthcare organizations, to build public healthcare center to improve healthcare system, to decentralize health care services so that the public are able to receive prompt healthcare services from places of their residence. The Minister then expressed readiness to work more closely with the United Nations and its specialized agencies in the areas of concerns.
