Equestrian statue of Hero of Mongolia M.Ekei erected in Ulgii
SocietyBayan-Ulgii /MONTSAME/ On the occasion of the 80th
anniversary of the establishment of Bayan-Ulgii aimag, an equestrian statue of
Hero of Mongolia Ekei Mazim was erected at the central square of Ulgii, capital of Bayan-Ulgii aimag.
The aimag’s local council at its 4th regular meeting of 2018 decided
to put up the statue in honor of the 80th anniversary. The statue
was then sculpted by sculptor R.Nurdikhan for MNT 280 million from the local
budget and the base of the statue was built with MNT 97 million.
M.Ekei who is widely known as the Fierce Eagle of Altai was
the chief of the 4th squad of the 17th battalion of the 4th
equestrian division during the Khalkhin Gol Battle. The fallen hero successfully
led his squad against the enemy during the battle that took place in a place
named Gulugt Mankhan on July 24, 1939.
About M.Ekei, national hero L.Dandar once said, “Ekei proved
himself a real hero during the Battle of Khalkhin Gol. I have not seen many
warriors like him during the Battle. Even after losing his arm and getting a
serious injury, he was admirably leading his squad until his last breath”
The People’s Great Khural of Mongolia made a resolution on August 19, 1979, to award the title ‘Hero of Mongolia’ to M.Ekei on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Victory in the Battle of Khalkhin Gol.
