FM participates high-level video conference on combating COVID-19

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On June 18, Minister of Foreign Affairs D.Tsogtbaatar participated and delivered speech at the high-level video conference held under the theme “Belt and Road International Cooperation: Combating COVID-19 with Solidarity” at the initiation of the Government of China.


The high-level video conference was attended by the Director-General of World Health Organization, the Administrator of the United Nations Development Program and deputy PMs, foreign ministers and deputy foreign ministers of 26 countries.




In his speech delivered at the conference, Minister D.Tsogtbaatar noted that the countries around the world are facing unprecedented challenges. However, he expressed confidence that the countries would win the fight against COVID-19 pandemic as a result of solidarity and mutual supports. He also emphasized that stopping the spread of the pandemic and safeguarding the health and lives of the people have become the priority of all countries and noted that Mongolia has initiated to establish in the regions a medical emergency response unit in the event of a pandemic under the auspices of the World Health Organization.


Furthermore, underlining the necessity to raise the health confidence between the countries in order to strengthen foreign trade and economic cooperation amid the pandemic, Minister D.Tsogtbaatar called for establishment of a new quarantine system and  introduction of new concepts such as “mobile quarantine” in order to keep trade and economic relations stabilized.


He also highlighted that Mongolia-China trade has been gradually increasing as a consequence of intensive measures to strengthen health confidence between the two countries and that there is still a chance to achieve the common goal of increasing trade turnover to USD 10 billion.


As a result of the high-level video conference on “Belt and Road International Cooperation: Combating COVID-19 with Solidarity”, Joint Statement has been issued. The participating countries expressed in the Joint Statement that they will further improve coordination and management in the areas of establishing the “Health Silk Road”, intensifying cooperation in infrastructure, supporting economic recovery and deepening practical cooperation. The "Joint Statement" supported Mongolia’s proposal to establish a medical emergency response unit in the event of a pandemic.
