Prisoner swap deal with Vietnam ratified

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. At its plenary session on November 21, Parliament adopted a bill on ratification of a prisoner exchange agreement between Mongolia and Vietnam, submitted by the government on October 8 this year. 


The agreement, drafted after a series of talks with the Vietnamese side in April 2018, was signed by Mongolian Minister of Justice Ts.Nyamdorj and Vietnamese Minister of Public Security To Lam on October 16, 2018 in Hanoi. This agreement was established within the framework of a 2000 agreement between Mongolia and Vietnam on mutual legal assistance in civil, family and criminal matters. 


Mongolia has established prisoner exchange agreements with 7 countries, China, South Korea, India, Canada, Kazakhstan and Hong Kong and Macao of China and four bilateral agreements on arrangements of prisoner exchange issues with Russia, Turkey, Poland and Cuba. 


As of today, there are two Vietnamese nationals serving jail sentences in Mongolia and no Mongolian citizen in prison in Vietnam, according to presentation heard at the Parliament session.
