Today marks the 57th anniversary of Mongolia joining the UNESCO

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Today, November 1 marks the 57th anniversary of Mongolia joining the UNESCO as its 108th member country.

                                                                                                                

Mongolia became the 108th member of the organization by signing UNESCO Regulation in London on November 1, 1962. The regulation was signed by Director of Department of International Organizations of Ministry of Foreign Affairs P.Tserentsoodol under his authority granted by the Government of Mongolian People’s Republic.

 



One of the fundamental principles of UNESCO is to equitably treat the nation regardless of its size of territory, form of government and without discrimination on the basis of race, sex, religion or nationality. Since the time the Mongolian People's Republic joined as its member, UNESCO has always encouraged and supported the development and progress of Mongolia in the fields of dissemination of modern scientific knowledge, education, national culture, arts, historical heritage and environmental protection, basic human rights and freedom.

 

The UNESCO was founded in 1946 in Paris, France, to develop the education, science and culture sectors of the United Nations (UN). UNESCO is committed to continuously improving the education, science, culture and communications sectors of its member countries and the expertise of its members. Ankle bone shooting, Many Mongolian cultural and historical heritages Mongolian ger (yurt), calligraphy, Eagle Festival, Naadam Festival, throat singing, long song, horse-head fiddle etc. are registered in the UNESCO List of Cultural Heritage.
