UK Minister for Asia meets Education Minister of Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. United Kingdom Minister of State of Asia and the Pacific, Heather Wheeler MP is visiting Mongolia on October 3 and 4. On the first day of her visit, Minister held meetings with several Ministers in the Mongolian government, discussing a broad range of issues covering trade and investment, democracy and media freedom, climate change, the Illegal Wildlife Trade and wider geo-strategic issues. 


The same day the UK Minister for Asia Heather Wheeler was received by Mongolian Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports Yo.Baatarbileg, during which the latter expressed gratitude for the British government for making the Chevening Scholarship Program available to Mongolian nationals to study in the universities in the UK. The Mongolian Minister also underlined that the Cambridge Education Program is being fruitfully implemented in secondary schools of Mongolia, allowing teachers and students to show greater academic achievement and performances. 


The sides also touched on several topics capable of boosting educational, scientific and sports partnership, including training English language teachers, making the Mongol Aspiration, Mongolia’s state-funded international high school with Cambridge Secondary Education a secondary school, sending British athletes to ‘Green Games’ international sports tournament to be hosted in Mongolia next year. 


In conclusion, Minister Yo.Baatarbileg introduced about possibilities of Mongolian experts and scholars carrying out researches regarding the issue of climate change, which is included in the responsibilities of Minister Heather Wheeler and cooperate with the Green Climate Fund. 


Today on October 4, Minister Heather Wheeler will lead the official opening ceremony of the new British Embassy office in the Shangri-La Office Tower in Ulaanbaatar and then visit the world-class Oyu Tolgoi mine in the Gobi Desert.
