Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports B.Bayarsaikhan received CEO of the Asian Paralympic Committee Tarek Souei on September 13.

At the start of the meeting, State Secretary B.Bayarsaikhan thanked the Asian Paralympic Committee CEO for accepting the Minister’s invitation to attend the event organized to mark the Mongolian Paralympic Day on September 14, which is organized for the very first time.

Mongolia joined the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2009. Along with the Law on Physical Culture and Sports defining certain ways in which physical culture and sports should be organized for persons with disabilities, the National Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games preparation headed by Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh has also been established.

Certain measures are currently being taken by the Government of Mongolia, such as giving financial support to national paralympic teams of 7 sports, and including para sports in the programme of the national sports festival. However, the necessity to improve the skills of para athletes, prepare sports medicine physicians, psychologists and organize professional development training for the personnel was underlined by the State Secretary, putting forth the request to further develop partnership with the Asian Paralympic Committee.

In response, Mr. Tarek Souei noted the implementation of the policy on even development and assessment of persons with disabilities in Mongolia being at a good level compared to other developing countries, and pledged that the committee will continue to support and partner with the Ministry.
