Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME / International Mother Language Day is marked on February 21 every year.

On the occasion of the day, the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO has launched a campaign #MyLanguageMatters, which aims to promote awareness of cultural and linguistic diversity, disseminate attitudes to preserve and safeguard cultural heritage and traditions through the native language and put an emphasis on the significance of protecting and treasuring the native language.

The National Commission, therefore, appeals to post about the importance and meaning of protecting and preserving the native language by using #MyLanguageMatters hashtag.

The International Mother Language Day was first proclaimed by the UNESCO in November, 1999 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.

To date, 2680 out of 7000 spoken languages are endangered.
