Mongolian Ambassador attends commemorative events for Leningrad liberation from Nazi siege
PoliticsUlaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ On January 26-27, Mongolia’s Ambassador to Russian Federation B.Delgermaa took part in commemorative events for 75th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi siege. These days, Russia solemnly commemorated the Siege of Leningrad in which hundreds of thousands of civilians perished.
The commemorative events
included a ceremony to lay wreaths at Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery,
military parade, concert of honor, fireworks and others.
Ambassador B.Delgermaa visited
the Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery, where she laid a wreath and
paid a tribute to the Motherland monument, and watched the military
parade and the concert of honor.
The Piskaryovskoye
Memorial Cemetery was opened on occasion of 15th anniversary of the Leningrad siege.
Near the entrance, an eternal flame stands in memory for unknown fallen.
The Siege of Leningrad
lasted about 900 days, from September 8, 1941, until January 27, 1943. It is
estimated that 1.2 million civilians died during the blockade, most of
starvation or exposure. They were buried in the mass graves in the memorial
complex.
