‘Education for Democracy’ resolution adopted

/MONTSAME/ The resolution titled ‘Education for Democracy’ has been adopted with consensus at the 52nd plenary meeting of
the UN General Assembly on December 13, 2018 at the initiative of Mongolia.
The General Assembly reaffirms the fundamental link between democratic
governance, peace, development and the promotion and protection of all human
rights and fundamental freedoms while recognizing the central role of education
for strengthening democracy, good governance and respect for justice at all
levels.
A wide
co-sponsorship of 45 countries in the resolution showed that the member countries have been broadly backing issues on education for democracy.
Mongolia initiated the resolution entitled ‘Education for Democracy’ firstly in 2012 when the country was chairing the Community of Democracies and adopted at the plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly.
Moreover, the draft resolution on Supporting the Global Citizenship Agenda through Education for Democracy sponsored by Mongolia was adopted during the 37th session of the general conference of the UNESCO in 2013.
