Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On July 20, Member of the Parliament S.Batbold met with delegates led by Foreign Office Minister of the UK for Asia and the Pacific Mark Field.

At the beginning of the meeting, MP and head of Mongolia-UK Parliamentary Group in the Parliament S.Batbold welcomed the delegation to Mongolia and expressed gratitude to Minister Mark Field for paying a visit to Mongolia on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. He also noted expansion of the bilateral relations and cooperation in many sectors since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1963.

In turn, the Minister conveyed gratitude to MP S.Batbold for his effort to the development of inter-parliamentary, political, trade and economic relations.

Then he voiced his pleasure at the outcomes from the partnership between London and Mongolian Stock Exchange in 2011 and emphasised the collaboration between the stock exchanges is crucial in attracting foreign investors to Mongolia.

“The inter-parliamentary cooperation is important for the bilateral relations. We always recall and appreciate UK being the very first Western country that recognized Mongolia's independence. It is important for the two countries to fully use opportunities by expanding cooperation in the sectors of mining, trade, economy and heavy and light industries. We have a lot to learn from experienced and skilled UK investors. In the recent 20 years, 10 students have been involved in the Chevening Scholarship annually. They have a key role in enhancing relations between the two countries” said the MP, requesting the Minister to focus on increasing the number of students’ involvement in the program and providing them with favorable employment opportunities. He also emphasized his belief that the bilateral cooperation on improving Stock Exchange in Mongolia will be beneficial.

Mr Mark Field expressed hope that Mongolian parliamentarians will touch a number of cooperation issues and come into a decision while their visit to the UK in October.

At the end of the meeting, MP S.Batbold expressed readiness to support the development of bilateral cooperation.
