Speaker meets UNFPA Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Parliament Speaker M.Enkhbold received the Asia Pacific Regional Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Björn Andersson, who is attending the AMCDRR.
At the start of the meeting, on behalf of the Parliament, Speaker M. Enkhbold expressed gratitude to the UNFPA for constant attention to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals of Mongolia, development, education and health of the population and implementing many fruitful programs and projects and supporting Mongolia.
Mr. Björn Andersson also thanked the Parliament for its persistent assistance and great contribution to the activities of the UNFPA and congratulated the highest legislative body for having successfully hosted the Asia-Pacific parliamentarians' forum.

During the meeting, the sides touched upon topics such as population ageing, protecting women's rights, gender equality, youth empowerment, sex education for young people and reproductive health and UNFPA’s activities regarding these issues and Mongolia’s participation. Also, UNFPA’s support to making amendments to the Law on Youth Development and the Law to Combat Domestic Violence was remarked.
"Mongolia has a vast territory and small population with sparce settlement. Telemedicine Project on reproduction and health of women and young people was efficiently implemented, which became a model for other countries” said Mr. Björn Andersson, noting willingness to actively cooperate with Mongolia under the UNFPA country program of assistance.
Speaker also stated parliament will continue to support activities of the Mongolia Country Office of the UNFPA.
Present at the meeting was UNFPA Mongolia Country Representative Ms Naomi Kitahara.
