Regulation of Assistance Fund to Mongolian citizens living abroad renewed

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ During its regular meeting on June 20, the Cabinet approved a renewed regulation of the Fund of Assistance to Mongolian citizens living abroad and the fund's board members.
 
The regulation of the Fund of Assistance was renewed with an aim to create mechanism to cover translation cost of a request for legal assistance into foreign languages which is the major problem for implementing mutual legal assistance treaties with foreign countries.
 
As of today, more than 150 thousand Mongolians are living and studying abroad. In relation, incidents are increasing related to Mongolians, whose rights being violated, losing their lives and becoming victims and committing crimes abroad. The Fund of Assistance to Mongolian citizens living abroad provided financial support equaled to MNT 1.3 billion in the years of 2009- 2017.
 
According to the survey, 40-50 percent of a total budget is spent on bringing the person's body or remains back home, while the rest is used for visiting Mongolian citizen in prison, providing legal assistance to victims or citizens whose rights were violated, and returning citizens who lost their belongings and unable to buy air tickets.
 
The Fund is financed by state budget, and non-refundable aid from foreign and domestic organizations, entities and companies, and citizens.
