Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Honorary President of the International Association for Mongol studies D.Tumurtogoo received The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon in June 14. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mongolia Masato Takaoka conferred the order to D.Tumurtogoo for his contribution to the academic field of Japan and Mongolia through Mongolian studies.

D.Tummurtogoo is a former Vice President of Mongolian National University of Education, former President of Mongolian Research Center, National University of Mongolia, former President of Research Institute for Linguistics, Mongolian Academy of Sciences, guest professor at the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and now is a consultant and Honorary President at the International Association for Mongol studies. He has been working for over 50 years in training and research organizations.

“43 years ago, I was appointed as a teacher at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. At that time the socialist and capitalist worlds had ideological contradictions and relations between the nations were very complicated. At the very least, we had to fly through Moscow to reach Tokyo. And at that time call between Ulaanbaatar and Tokyo was impossible and letters reached in 2-3 months. At that time, it was impossible to imagine today's broad friendly relations between Mongolia and Japan. I am also grateful for my students at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies Kuribayashi Hitoshi, Futaki Hiroshi, Nakami Tateo and Saito Yoshio for becoming the leading scholars of Mongolian studies. I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the highest order of Japanese government awarded for the small contribution I made to the development of Mongolian studies in Japan and training specialists” he said.
