Mongolia hosts GASL meeting for the first time

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock (GASL) meeting or 8th annual meeting of the multi-stakeholder partnership is taking place on June 11-15 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry is hosting the meeting in cooperation with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and the Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock (GASL).
The 8th meeting gathered more than 120 delegates from 34 countries including regional countries Agricultural Ministers and over 100 corresponding officials from governmental and non-governmental organizations of Mongolia.
"I am confident that we will make many important joint decisions to increase livestock production that suited climate condition, rangeland, natural resource and feature of ecosystem of the countries which are developing nomadic herding, and Mongolia shares its experience and views on it," Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry B.Batzorig noted in his opening remarks.

The first day event was chaired by Fritz Scneider, Chair of GASL and he said "Sustainable livestock is about developing it in harmony with other sectors. Therefore, Mongolia has a possibility to develop nomadic herding stable in future. It is proper to keep the number of livestock meeting with grazing capacity.
Delegates of the meeting are touching many issues including natural resource and rangeland usage, food security and investment in sustainable livestock as well as stable livelihood of herders, their education and gender equity. In conjunction with the issue, representing 300 thousand herders herder of Bayankhongor aimag Ts.Buyannemekh made a presentation under a topic ‘Mongolian Herders for Sustainable Development’.
