MCC Second compact targets to water supply improvement

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A meeting of the working group responsible for managing development and holding negotiations on the second Compact agreement between the Government of Mongolia and US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) led by the Foreign Affairs Minister D.Tsogtbaatar was held on March 27 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It is planned to spend the MCC’s second Compact funding on improvement of Ulaanbaatar water supply. In this regard the total water supply of Ulaanbaatar will be increased from groundwater sources and using recycled wastewater from the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant to industrial operations of the Thermal Power Stations. Moreover a comprehensive institutional and legal program and policy will be realized to ensure long-term sustainability of investment efficiency for increasing water supply in Ulaanbaatar.

Multilateral representatives including the Minister of Environment and Tourism N.Tserenbat, Governor of the capital and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar S.Batbold, president of the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry B.Lhagvajav, director of the Water supply and Sewerage Authority Ts.Turkhuu, the experts’ team leader Dr. D.Dorjsuren, state secretaries of relevant ministries, heads of agencies and departments attended the meeting.
The participants discussed projects and programs to be implemented with the non-repayable funding of US MCC and agreed to deliver the proposals to US side.
The parties are working to sign the Compact agreement in the beginning of the third quarter of this year.
