Blacksmith workshop for prisoners opens

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On March 20, opening of the blacksmith workshop was held at the 441 detention center. It was set up with non-refundable grants from the TIKA’s Project Coordination Department in Ulaanbaatar in the frames of cooperation between the General Executive Agency of Court Decision of Mongolia and Turkish International Cooperation Agency (TIKA) to support the center's production activity, to help it increase its products diversity, create internal resources, pay off compensations for damages and provide vocational training and jobs to prisoners.

The Chief of the General Executive Agency of Court Decision, Brigadier General Ts.Amgalanbayar noted that the training on basic welding, lathe and iron craft conducted by teachers from Technical University of Ankara for the prisoners to work at the workshop was successfully organized between July 17 and August 25, 2017 and that by exploiting the workshop, products worth of MNT 220 million including iron doors, double beds, chairs and armored vehicle safety equipments for Court Decision Agency and its divisions were produced, 126 prisoners were employed and MNT 14.8 million were paid to them and compensations for damages were paid from their salaries.

“I’m confident that our cooperation would last for a long time and that our work would be beneficial to your organization and society” said Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Hakan Cavusoglu.

In addition the parties exchanged views on ways of sharing experiences.
