31 thousand repressed people rehabilitated

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ A joint meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committees on State Structure and Justice was held on January 9 at the State House. The meeting made final discussion of a Bill to amend the Law on Rehabilitation and Granting of Compensation to Victims of Political Repression, submitted by MPs N.Enkhbold, Ya.Sanjmyatav and D.Sarangerel.
Regarding the Bill, relevant officials gave explanations to inquiries of some MPs.
D.Uuganbaatar, head of the Office of the State Commission on Management and Organization Rehabilitation Political Repression (SCMORPR), said: “According to incomplete data by the General Intelligence Agency, 36 thousand people were repressed, of whom 30,220 people were rehabilitated. In duration of 18 years since the law on Rehabilitation and Granting of Compensation to Victims of Political Repression came into force, compensations worth MNT16.4 billion were given to 18178 repressed people or their relatives. According to the law, apartments were given to 153 repressed or their families and money for apartment was given to 204 people.”
Ya.Sanjmyatav, MP and chairman of the SCMORPR, said: “There are a lot to do. We intend to put a request to Russia to copy archival documents and dossiers regarding Mongolians who were politically repressed and executed in Russia, bring their graves to bury in native country, re-scrutinize places of the repressions and build memorial monuments for them. We will focus on completing rehabilitations by the end of 2020 or for extended two years' term.”
Following the discussion, the Bill was supported by 100 percent vote for Parliamentary plenary meeting consideration.
