Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ On November 30, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Government of Mongolia established the Grant Agreement on Project for the Improvement of Facilities for Primary and Secondary Education in Ulaanbaatar City.

In the scope of the project with a total funding of JPY2 billion and 379 million, four buildings of general educational schools will be built under the universal design principles. Schools with universal design will be friendly to disabled children and can be used as a temporary shelter in case of disaster.

Due to recent years’ migration from rural areas to the capital city, a constructional work of school buildings is unable to catch up with the movement and some of the general educational schools in the city turned to have three-shifts of schooling that causes to deteriorate educational environment.

The school buildings must be endurable in case of disaster. According to the research, 242 out of 656 school buildings in total were built with non-endurable design.

The Government believes that the project will contribute to increase sufficiency of general educational schools and the four schools buildings will be model school building for further constructions.
