Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Ministry of Road and Transportation Development is aiming to reduce the emission of poisonous fumes from diesel motors used in public transport buses in Ulaanbaatar city.

In frames of this work, a cooperation memorandum was established on Monday between the Administration of Ulaanbaatar city, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Komotech Corporation.

Particulate matter (PM) has become one of the problems should be tackled in Ulaanbaatar city. Smoke emitted from public transport buses makes up major amount of the poisonous fumes, and it causes a harmful problem to the respiratory organ.

Ahead of the document signing, representatives of the Ministry of Road and Transportation Development, the Ulaanbaatar Administration Office and the JICA held several meetings and discussions in order to design measures and actions to be taken for reducing the emission. Accordingly, the sides decided to introduce a tool for filtering poisonous fumes from diesel motors, with a non-refundable aid from the JICA. It has been proven that the new tool reduced the emission by over 80 per cent after testing. Moreover, the tool has many advantages, such as, resistance to cold weather and long-year usage.

In the first turn, the tool will be installed in 20-30 vehicles by October, and it will be introduced in all buses of state-owned companies. The sides are learning a possibility to produce the tool in Mongolia as well.
