Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Eight Renewable Energy Forum is being held on May 5 under the auspices of the Prime Minister. The forum is taking place at Corporate Convention Centre, Ulaanbaatar, attracting 500 participants from home and abroad. This is being hosted by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the Mongolian Wind Energy Association (MWEA) and co-organized by the Ministry of Energy and the Energy Regulatory Commission.

Mongolia boasts rich solar and wind energy resources. The organizers underline that renewable energy sector should be developed with carefully established policies to exploit such a wealth. The Salkhit wind farm, commissioned four years ago with cost of USD 120 million, is now supplying 3-4 percent of the centralized energy system. One of the most important additions to the country’s energy sector was the commissioning of a 10MW solar power plant built near Darkhan city, took place in January 2017. Also, the second wind power plant with 50MW capacity is under construction in Tsogttsetsii soum of Umnugobi province. As a result, the capacity of renewable power source will is expected to reach 120 MWT by the end of 2017.

Although there are positive outlooks and opportunities in the sphere of renewable energy, lack of professional cadres and policy regulations remain pressing issues. Therefore, the 8th Forum will seek to determine the sector’s development strategies and solving problems.

The Secretary-General of the Global Wind Energy Council, Mr Steve Sawyer and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of France, Ms Elizabeth Barsak are invited.
