Mongolian Embassy hosts meeting of reps of International IDEA
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Embassy of Mongolia in Belgium organized Tuesday a meeting for Belgium-based representatives of member states of the International Institute for Development and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) at the European Institute for Asian Studies (EIAS).
Chaired by Kh.Davaadorj, the Ambassador of Mongolia to Belgium, the meeting was one of the series of actions devoted to overseas representatives of the IDEA which are hosted by Mongolia as the chair of the IDEA Council this year. This meeting brought together some 30 people inclduing Ambassadors of Sweden, Cape Verde, Costa Rica, Botswana; the Chagre D’Affaires of Canada and South Africa; Minister-Counsellors of Indonesia, Switzerland and Peru.
A keynote speech themed “Implementation of sustainable development goals” was delivered by Dr Jan Vandemoortele, a co-author of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), while Kh.Davaadorj expressed position and course Mongolia is pursuing as it has assumed the chairmanship of the International IDEA Council. Director of the Office of International IDEA to the EU Andrew Bradley also reported about further measures, and then called for the members to take active part in the activities.
In the period of its chairmanship of the International IDEA Council, Mongolia organized an international seminar themed “Democratic transformation in Asia” on March 21-22, 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, and provided preparations for hosting the Democratic Forum on August 25-26 in collaboration with the International IDEA. Moreover, an initiative has been forwarded to establish international training center for election observers under support of the Community of Democracies (CoD), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
