Number of disabled children decreases

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ In 2015, number of people with disabilities grew by 2.2 percent or 2,157 compared to the previous year, reaching 101.7 thousand, of which 44.5 percent are women. Their 40.8 percent have birth imparities, while 59.2 percent have acquired disabilities. Acquired disabilities are caused by common diseases (74.8%), occupational diseases (9.2%), car accidents (3.8%), household accidents (9.6%) and industrial accidents (2.6%).

There are 10.9 thousand people with impaired vision, 4.5 thousand -- with speaking, 8.4 thousand -- with hearing, 20.1 thousand -- with motional, 18.4 thousand -- with learning, 7.9 thousand -- with combined disabilities and 31.5 thousand -- with other types of disabilities in Mongolia.

Number of children with disabilities went down to 10.4 thousand, decreasing by 8.4 percent compared to 2014. Disabled children are 10.2 percent of total disabled population. Their 72.3 percent have birth imparities while 27.7 percent acquired disabilities.
